General lighting tips
- Plan a budget and keep the theme and colors of the bathroom while making lighting purchases.
- One of the most widely used and popular lighting for bathrooms is the down lighting that is recessed in the ceiling which falls right down illuminating the entire bath space with a soft delicate feel . These should be placed at suitable places like above the shower and the bath.
- There is scope for shadow trap in recessed lighting fixtures, hence place the mirrors appropriately so that you will be able to see yourself well without the shadow falling on you.
- If your bathroom is small, see to it that it is illuminated bright with possibly a single fixture and the wall and flooring with lighter and paler colors so that it looks more spacious. Recessed light in the ceiling or a diffused light are powerful and efficient.
- Wall lights on either side of the mirror can be used to better lighting while shaving or when putting on make up. Ensure that these are placed at the right height on the walls so that the light doesn’t fall on the mirror.
- Mirrors with built in lights can be used to avoid the hassle of fixing them up on the walls.
- Different levels of lighting can be used for the mirror for make up, bright or dim depending on your choice.
- A bar of lamps can be fixed over the mirror for improved illumination.
- Dimmers and mood lighting can be used for a dreamy feel.
- Decorative lighting is another way to indulge and enhance the look and make a statement in your bath space. There are a wide variety of such lamps available in various colors, shapes, sizes and textures. Choose those that go with the bathroom fixtures.
- If you have a picture or a painting in the bathroom that you think should be conspicuous, illuminate it with lights placed above it or on either sides of it.
- Add a lighted switch so that you don’t have to grope in the dark to put on the lights during nighttime.
- Without spending too much, you could just replace the glass globes from one color to the other or change over from clear to frosted globes.
- Also consider placing a lamp shade on the counter top if there is enough space. This is an additional way of adding interest to your bath space.
- Go for frequent change in lighting fixtures to avoid monotony and repeat. If you have bar lights for a season, change over to wall lamp fixtures for some time, though this is slightly cumbersome, it’s worth the change in the look.
