Child Bedroom Plans
Your children’s bedroom is not just a place for them to go to sleep; it also involves various activities like play, study, friends coming over, pets etc. It has to be designed and furnished in such a way that it is ideal for all the hustle and bustle that goes on.
Walls
- Have color schemes that either go with the flooring or have bright or lighter colors depending on your child’s preference also keeping the size of the room in mind.
- Use interesting wall papers for a slightly different and attention grabbing look.
- Bright colors are usually used for children’s bedroom as they love such colors, giving a cheerful vibrant feeling.
- Have interesting themes like stars and clouds on the ceiling. Stick fun animals and flowers on one of the walls or posters of prominent sportsmen.
- Have blackboard paint on half of the walls as kids generally scribble and paint on the walls. This is easy for cleaning and there is no risk of the walls getting messy and dirty.
Flooring
- Flooring with a smooth finish is ideal for a child’s bedroom; they crawl, sit, play and run.
- Soft rubber tiles with bright colors that come specially designed for children can be used.
- Rubber flooring is much easier for cleaning up and low in maintenance.
Storage Space
- Making enough space for storage is essential to keep the room from clutter.
- Use built – in shelves for necessary everyday belongings likes clothes, which are easy to use and low maintenance.
- Have enough closets to accommodate shoes and boots. You wouldn’t want them thrown around in the room.
- Include hangers and rails at proper places that could easily be reached by your child, preferably back of the doors or on the walls.
- See through plastic boxes for storing toys, books and games are ideal. These are portable and quick and easy to use and maintain. You child is the last person to volunteer cleaning up, so keep the tidying process as simple as possible.
Lighting
- Use task lights at the study table so that there is proper illumination while your child is at his studies.
- Regular tubes or bulbs and bed lights need to be put in the room.
- Make sure that the room gets good amount of sunlight during the day.
- Ensure safety while doing the wires and plugging.
Windows
- Keep the windows simple with normal blinds, shades or short curtains.
- Avoid elaborate long drapes with expensive materials.
- Have regular fabrics with patterns or the child’s favorite cartoon characters or animals on the curtains.
- Balance and match bed spreads and pillow covers with the wall colors and curtains.
Furniture
- Bunker beds are the best option if there are two kids within more or less the same age group.
- A mattress with good support as their bones are still developing and growing, you wouldn’t want the mattress slumped and wilting under their weights, go for one that is long lasting.
- Plan proper spaces for the study table, beds and the computer.
- Avoid sharp edged harmful furniture.
Keep in mind that your child grows quite fast and so does his preferences, plan the room in such a way that it is easier to remodel and is flexible enough for changes in the future.
