Child Room Decorations
Doing up your child’s room can be quite an interesting challenge. They usually want something more adventurous, color schemes away from the usual mix and match and décor that don’t really have to create a balance. You could well relive your childhood by decorating it with all kinds of weird but interesting stuff, also involving your child in it and doing it up the way he likes it, all in all making it an interesting experience for both you and your child.
Get him involved tboo
- Like any other room, your child’s room also needs to be planned and its various dimensions taken into account. Depending on where the doors and windows are, plan the décor that goes in.
- Plan the room and mark important spaces for his computer, bed, study table, toys etc. Avoid clutter in the room and encourage him to maintain it.
- Involve your child in his room décor from the start. Depending on his age and general understanding capacity, you could get together and work around on making his room interesting for both play and studies.
- Decorate it in such a way that he/she would love to get back the room and not dread going in there, keep it exciting and full of fun.
- Decide on the wall color schemes together, find out what he likes and if it’s reasonable enough, paint the room with his color choices. Mix and matches of blue for boys and shades of pinks for girls would be ideal.
- Have a box of crayons before them and get the walls painted with the colors they pick, if they are too young to talk about their preferences.
- Your child’s room can be worked around his favorite cartoon characters, if he likes Tom and Jerry or Popeye for instance; having pictures of them on the walls will keep the interest up and will be encouraging for him to spend more of his time in the room.
- Furniture too could be based on themes like fairies, butterflies and other such larger than life themes making it attractive.
- Their rooms can also be based on themes like sports to instill interest in them; room could have a water theme for swimming, sporty theme for outdoor sports like football, tennis, baseball etc.
- Sacks could be used instead of regular couches and chairs.
- Have his favorite toys put in at interesting places and have it look like a child’s room.
- Most importantly, don’t force your likes and dislikes on them, let them have their choice of décor as it’s their room at the end of the day, at the same time do not encourage them if their demands get too unreasonable.
- Make space for their pets; maintain a bowl of goldfish or a box for their cat at appropriate places.
- Do not invest in expensive furniture and go easy on window treatments and lighting fixtures as children grow fast and their preferences change equally faster.
- Ensure that there are no sharp edged furniture and fixtures in your child’s room for his safety.
- Make sure that the room gets enough fresh air and sunlight.
