Planning the colors for your home can seem quite an uphill task. Which colors to use in the living area, for the bedrooms and in the common areas can be quite puzzling. But with the theme and look etched in you brains, you could create some mind blowing home colors.
The colors you choose for your home should largely depend on the size and space of the rooms more than anything else. You can play around with different color schemes based on the expanse of the rooms. You could use different colors depending on the person that stay in a particular room, if it’s an all girls room, lighter cooler colors can be planned while warmer bolder colors can be used for an all boy room.
Colors can vary depending on the mood of the room , if it’s the living area, warmer reds or purples can be used. Bedrooms can have more pleasant lighter hues while the dining and other common areas can have neutral colors.
If the rooms in your apartment are large, you can have different color schemes for each room. The important thing to bear in mind is that the schemes you use compliment and blend in rather than stand out from each other. This is principally important while coloring hallways and corridors, making their patterns and texture merging well together.
Another way of planning your home colors is coloring the floors, corridor walls and stairs with neutral colors and using specific distinct color schemes for the rooms and creating a balance against each of these hues.
You could use one basic color of a particular group and use a complimentary color scheme on the adjacent wall, each room can accordingly be created having its own personality and character with some merging quality with the rest of the house. You could for example aqua green as the main theme in your room and can use this as a complimentary color in another part of the house.
Keeping the colors of your home on the lighter shades is suggested if it is smaller in size, this makes the space look bigger giving it more volume. Using warm colors like reds, plums and burgundy will make the rooms look smaller than they actually are and end up looking crammed and packed.
Colors you’d want to use also depend on the lighting that gets into smaller homes. Choose colors that get accentuated and enhanced by light settings and try creating a harmonious and pleasant atmosphere. Using different tones of the basic cooler color in different rooms is ideal in this scenario. Like you could use blue as the basic color and work around its different shades and tone in the other rooms , this way you can get a special feel from each room without them being too contrast from each other maintaining an agreeable balance.
Using the same or closely colored furniture, rugs or carpets as the wall color is idyllic for smaller homes. They blend in with each other and don’t end up looking cluttered and chaotic.
Similar colored items in the other rooms are a good idea too.
You can have a different style for each room while planning your home. If one of the rooms is painted, the other could use a floral wall paper or have a dragging effect, at the same time maintaining a sense of balance and harmony with the entire house looking as one is essential. Make sure that the styles of each room are not too contrasting and end up looking like different houses all together. Throwing in different shades of rugs or having complimentary colored upholstery is another idea.
