Color Schemes, Style and Balance

What color schemes to use, will the style and the whole ambience create an admirable balance, are some of the questions that arise while doing your home décor. While it is fine to have that basic bit of knowledge about colors , style and balance that come in handy, it is at all times more fulfilling and rewarding to add your own individual feel to the whole experience of beautifying your little nest.

Color schemes

Color schemes are the blend of two or more colors that form a pleasant combination. Before choosing the right color schemes for your home, make a note of the size of the rooms, sunshine that comes into the area, the furniture present and most importantly the kind of ambience that you’d want to create and the amount of time you spend in there.

Complementary color schemes

These are placed opposite each other on the color wheel. These colors as the name suggests, compliment each other and enhance the richness in the other. One color ought to be sutle while the other dominant while going in for these colors. Red and green, yellow and violet

Here are some examples of these colors.

Monochromatic colors

These are colors with similar hues but dissimilar tones, values and saturation. Use of two or more monochromatic colors forms a trendy and chic look . Various shades of blue could be used in a bedroom or various tones of reds could be used in the living area for a vibrant look.

Split complementary colors

These color schemes present an untamed natural and daring bold look. A main color coupled with its complementary color and colors from either side of the complementary color make these kinds of colors. These colors are most suitable for creating an artificial finish.

Style

Depending on the theme of your home, you can create a style, or you could slightly change an existing style and recreate the entire look. You could base your style on a look that is casual, formal, traditional or contemporary. Choosing the appropriate colors, shapes of furniture, and the right fabric texture for upholstery form an important part in creating a distinct style for your home. Your home could be Victorian using dark reds and plums but instead of going by the exact style, you could tweak it just a little bit to suit your own taste or follow the current trends by making a change in the wall colors or a mix and match in the furnishings.

Balance

You have chosen the colors and now the issue is which hue goes where, what is the wall color going to be, color of the couch and the rug , on the whole , how do you make the right balance and create the look you desire? Even if you have the best of furniture and colors, lack of balance can create chaos.

If the walls, rugs, ceiling, drapes and couches are of the similar color tone, you could create a balance by using mix and match colors of cushions, furniture, wall paintings and picture frames. These will compliment each other giving your home the right balance and coordination instead of looking bizarre.

Another way of creating a balance is working around a central piece like the color of the rug or the color of the central couch in the living area, you could use a matching or complimentary color that suits the central piece for the walls and also work around the other areas of the room with slightly contrasting colors to the other embellishments present.
