Color Theory – Warm Colors and Cool Colors

Color theory
Color theory lets you blend in two or more suitable opposite colors to create attractive and pleasing permutations represented in the color wheel, which is a gamut of colors encircled in a sphere. As per the color theory, two opposite colors on the color wheel, any three colors placed in equal proportions around the color wheel that form a triangle or any four colors that make a rectangle are said to appear as pleasant colors when merged together. These pleasant color blends are known as color schemes. It basically tells you which colors to mix in and which colors don’t look good together to get that look right for your homes.
Color theory stands right for the blending and mixing of only pure colors, combinations of color lightness, tints, shades and color tones do not fall under the color theory; you could however choose them as per your preferences.
Warm colors
The effect you wish to create in your homes depends on the colors you choose. Reds, yellows, burgundy, oranges and browns are some of the warm colors that you could opt for if you’d want that vibrant and energetic feel. These colors provide you that feel as these are deeper, warmer colors. You could use these colors where you are your most active and lively self like in the play room, in the dining area or in your living room. The family that these colors belong to enhance vivaciousness and full of life all around you .
Cool colors
These colors are the exact opposite of warm colors, blues, indigos, greens and purples are some of the cooler colors that have a very soothing and relaxing effect on you. These could be used in your bedrooms and bathrooms where you want to unwind, have calm and peaceful times. Cool colors can also be used if you wish to make your rooms look spacious and large.
But ensure that there is good amount of sunlight and air coming into these rooms to give that feel of space all around you, otherwise they might make the room rather dull and uninviting.
Neutral colors
Grey’s and browns are neutral colors and are not usually represented on the color wheel.
These colors do not produce any breath taking contrasts when matched with other colors. If you want to keep your room subtle without attracting too much attention, you could use neutral colors.
Which ones to choose
The choice of these colors entirely depends on your judgment. Pick these colors on how you’d want your rooms to be and the amount of time you spend in each of them. If you are one of those persons who use the living room for lots of fun, play and entertainment, warm colors would be ideal but if you prefer some peace and harmony and want that crisp morning freshness with the sun pouring in , then cool greens and blues would be most suitable.
