Style, Textures and Proportion

Having that perfect home décor or getting close to having it rather involves an understanding and having an eye for style, choosing the right textures and having the right proportions of level and balance for the entire look and feel.

Style

Styling your home may possibly be your most creative aspect. You need not necessarily be a professional interior designer or go to one for doing up your home. Adding your own sense of style can augment the look of your home like nothing else, who better than you to give that perfect style to your home?

Textures

Textures can drastically change the look of your home. You could have wall papers, plaster or a brick effect for your walls, this when viewed in sunlight looks different from artificial lighting. Similarly, your flooring too may have various textures, like a matte, marble, wooden finish, carpets and rugs etc . Furnishing with leather, velvet, tweed, linen, cushions with silk all have their own look and feel and they appear different under different lights and have a delicate subtle effect on the hues of the room. If you desire a more than normal look for your home, textures are the answers. You could use deep blue silk drapes for a slightly rough off white textured wall creating an interesting balance with cushions matching the drapes. Having a sense of judgment while choosing textures is a skill which can be developed with lots of observation and a keen interest to do something different .

Proportion

Proportions mostly got to do with size and area of the items involved and how they coordinate with each other. It’s all about creating the right balance between what you choose and how you harmonize and bring them together. Beginning with the color schemes and matching them with the furniture, upholstery, lighting, the right textures, creating that perfect sense of style is having the right proportion for your house.
