How to Select Kid Furniture
There is not much you can do here than just follow instructions of your kids if they are old enough to have their own likes and dislikes. The most you can do is give them what they like ensuring that it doesn’t cross your budget limits and keeping a check on their wild demands but if your child is too young to select the furniture, you sure are the boss here.
Safety
- One of the most important aspects of selecting kid furniture is ensuring that it is safe and harmless for your child.
- Make sure that there are no sharp edges or things that could hurt on beds and other furniture.
- Surfaces should be easy to maintain and clean, with not much cleaning time.
- Laminates or well sealed woods are usually ideal.
Firstly decide on how much you are willing to spend and see to it that the furniture is flexible enough for you to change at some point in the future, as your children might want a particular make as per their changing choices.
Modular Furniture
This furniture is most flexible as you can combine and coordinate a bed with a matching headboard; add in shelves, cabinets and other items. These could be joined and removed and are easy to carry incase you relocate often.
Stand-alone Furniture
The benefit this kind of furniture offers is that unlike modular furniture you can have a different look each time you place it at a different space, easily movable from place to place and can be matched to the other items by painting them but these come in standard sizes.
Bunker Beds
These are the most popular with children. If there are two kids, these are ideal. The biggest advantage with these kinds is, very interesting for children as they got to climb up for the one above and if your kid is troublesome while sleeping, this is perfect to invoke that element of curiosity and put him to bed.
Canopy Beds
Essentially intended for girls, the main feature is a frame that supports a fabric roof, where a dreamy effect could be created by draping a soft fabric over the frame.
Study Desks
These are ideal to create that seriousness while he/she does the homework and assignments. These come in all shapes and sizes in different colors and textures either in wood or in plastic.
Specific computer desks are available to place a computer, printer etc. Ensure that the monitor and keyboard are the right height for your child, monitor at eye level, and the keyboard lower than a normal desk height need to be made sure.
Bookcases and shelves
These are available in all shapes, sizes and styles; you can buy individual parts and assemble them yourself. Make sure that these are strong and spacious enough to accommodate all your kid’s books and toys.
Closets and Wardrobes
Select storage spaces like closets and wardrobes for your child’s clothing. Clothes strewn all across the room are the last thing you want see. Depending on his room space and other furniture select appropriate closets and wardrobes.
